A 4th of July-themed cupcake with a tricolor vanilla bean buttercream frosting, topped with a hamburger made of royal icing

July, 2019

Word got around the workplace that I have a passion for cake decorating. My coworker at Patriot's Tavern, who goes by the name "Nacho" commissioned a cake from me, requesting it to look like a royal crown.

A rainbow sugar cookie cake that I made for my coworkers at Target during Pride month!

June, 2018

One of my previous birthday cakes. I sculpted my dogs out of fondant and piped buttercream succulents, so all of the decorations were edible.

July, 2018

I decided create a recipe for pineapple upside down cupcakes! Garnished with a raspberry coulis and homemade whipped cream.

This was a birthday cake baked with love for my friend Nikhil's 22nd birthday. Its design was asked to be based off of the infamous cake in the video game Portal.

Every year I insist on making my own birthday cake because it's one of the few times a year I actually have a reason to bake! This was a banana chocolate chip cake, smothered in a sunset-colored cream cheese frosting. My mom wrote me happy birthday, though!

Testing the limits of both my baking and architectural abilities, I laid the blueprints for one of my most ambitious builds. Made entirely from scratch, this gingerbread house features a terrace with pretzel spindles, a jellybean cobblestone chimney, and torched marshmallow smoke billowing from the top.

My Creations

I'm rarely found with an idle mind or idle hands. I have a strong drive to create that manifests throughout my academic, occupational and artistic spheres. I have a wide variety of mediums that I enjoy working with, and take satisfaction in learning a new skill starting from scratch and practicing until I've achieved proficiency.

All of my artistic undertakings are self-taught. The experience I have with various art forms allows me to pair my inspiration with the medium that expresses it best. Having versatility with how to bring an idea to fruition produces pieces that are unique to my imagination, and teaches me new creative problem solving techniques with every piece I put my heart into.

Baking

Baking was my first creative outlet. My mother would bake elaborate birthday cakes for me growing up, and taught me most of what I now know about baking. She and I have a holiday tradition of baking dozens of dozens of cookies to gift to friends, family, and hospital employees on Christmas Eve every year.

Embroidery

Recognizing that embroidered apparel was (and is still) trending, I decided to teach myself the craft and see if I could sell some of my work.  I had been embroidering for a couple months at this point, and it is my largest embroidery piece.

April, 2019

For my brother's home in Alaska. I embroidered a tufted puffin, his town's name and its geographic coordinates. I then stained the embroidery hoop to give it a more rustic look.

May, 2019

This was one of my first embroidery projects. I stitched this toadstool straight onto my jean jacket. It features many different embroidery stitches: the chain stitch, leaf stitch, star stitch, and French and bullion knots.

February, 2019

This was my first embroidery sale. I was commissioned to embroider a rusty-patched bumblebee and embedded the fabric into a miniature hoop necklace.

June, 2019

This piece was an experimentation with "needle-painting", the art of making photorealistic embroidery pieces. I never moved beyond the head, because this was just for practice and is a time and labor-intensive process.

July, 2019

This was a commission for a friend. The eyeball was stitched onto the rim of a Duluth Trading hat, supposedly giving the effect of having a "third eye".

March, 2019

This sprig of thyme was one of my first embroidery projects, stitched onto my jean jacket. â€‹

Miscellaneous

A miniature apple pie made out of polymer clay. I cut out individual apple slices from a thin layer of oven-bake clay, created a lattice, and baked all of it in a bottle cap to mimic a pie tin.

December, 2018

My balloon art phase was one that if you blinked, you'd have missed it. I received a balloon art kit for Christmas; in my instinct to master the craft, I graduated from balloon dogs to hats, flowers, and even a candle-lit Christmas wreath.

December, 2018

My first project for my glassblowing course in college. The objective was to create a sculpture of "found glass" (not blown in the studio).

The butterfly's wings are made of salvaged shards from a broken glass mosaic I also made. The body of the sculpture is also a functional lamp.

February, 2019

A watercolor piece I did of ocean waves to get familiar with a new watercolor palette. I used a colorless crayon to block out areas where I needed white sea foam.

July, 2019

This was a going-away gift to my coworker when I worked as a waitress at a local restaurant over the summer. This mini margherita pizza required a lot of detail to color and texture.

July, 2019

This collage art was inspired by the effects of our society's diet culture  on young women.

August, 2019

My first attempt at pointillism, this was really a practice in color mixing and patience. Lots of patience. It is a study of a panther chameleon, the most vibrant species, native to Madagascar

August, 2019

I once rescued a juvenile squirrel who had fallen out of a tree and was badly injured. The wildlife rehabilitation center told me he wouldn't likely make it, and I painted this watercolor piece as a tribute to his short life.

August, 2019

I was inspired by a decoration in our house to paint this rainy day frog. It challenged me to capture shadows and highlights in order to give the illusion of a three dimensional object.

October, 2019

These doodles are of my two chihuahuas, who always inspire me and make me smile.

The heart is an artistic subject that I have a fascination with. I found a lot of healing and fulfillment  in painting this with only my fingers. The vibrant, cluttered composition of this piece was meant to express the experience of uncontrollable, messy emotions.

What would it look like to put a horse skull on a snake's body? This was the question that ultimately guided the creation of this piece. I challenged myself to become proficient in a digital art program, familiarizing myself with Adobe Sketch.

A gift for my mother's birthday. I stylized my family's beloved chihuahuas, Rico and Ruby, into miniature paintings. To protect the paint and add a glass-like finish, resin was poured over and allowed to cure.

Putting the mixed in media. This piece was inspired by the crawfish that didn't make it into my paella. They looked lonely, so I treated them to a dinner for two.

"Weeds are just plants out of place", is something I learned from my horticulture professor. In a ditch at the end of my driveway, there is a patch of weeds that, at the right time in the summer, bloom at the same time. I collected their flowers, then dried and arranged them in a resin shadow box. The message within this project was to acknowledge the power of judgements, and to be mindful about how we shape our own experiences.
